Also known as rooibos, Red Bush is grown in South Africa and comes from Aspalathus linearis, a plant entirely different from the Camellia sinensis used to produce black, green and white teas. Its fine, reddish leaves create the characteristic deep copper colour and naturally mellow flavour for which rooibos is known.
Red Bush is naturally caffeine free and a source of antioxidant polyphenols, making it an easy infusion to enjoy at any time of day. Unlike decaffeinated tea, no process is required to remove caffeine – the plant simply contains none naturally.
Once infused, Red Bush produces a rich, reddish-copper liquor with a smooth and rounded character. There is a gentle natural sweetness alongside deeper, slightly woody notes, creating plenty of flavour without the bitterness or astringency associated with some conventional teas.
Its fuller character also makes Red Bush particularly versatile. Drink it on its own to appreciate its natural sweetness, add a slice of lemon for something lighter, or enjoy it with a splash of milk just as you would a traditional black tea.
Naturally caffeine free and wonderfully easy to drink, it is equally suited to the first cup of the morning or a comforting brew in the evening.
