Purple tea is a new rare tea variety grown in the high regions of Kenya. Contains more antioxidants than green tea but has a smooth flavour similar to Kenyan black tea. Try adding a slash of lemon and it will instantly brighten in colour.
Purple tea is new rare tea variety grown in the high regions of Kenya which extremely high in both the anthocyanins and polyphenols antioxidants. It contains 20% more antioxidants than green tea. When brewed it produces a light golden hue with a refreshingly smooth flavour that is easy drinking for any time of the day.
Purple tea was created when normal Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica plant was cross bread with it’s anthocyanin rich cousin Camelia Irrawadiensis. It is grown in cooler conditions that sustain more intense sun rays at an elevation of 4,500 and 7,500 feet. These conditions create particular levels of stress meaning the plants produces high levels of protective anthocyanins and polyphenols to combat this.
The flavour of Purple Tea is more in line with a light black tea but with a slightly woody tart finish.
