Grown amongst the Himalayan mountains of Nepal, this tea has a lighter and more delicate character than many traditional black teas. The mountain growing conditions help create a tea with clarity and freshness, allowing the more subtle qualities of the leaf to come through in the finished cup.
Himalayan Gold is harvested mid-season and graded SFTGFOP1 – Special Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe Grade 1. This high whole-leaf grade is reflected in the appearance of the tea, with beautifully formed dark leaves interspersed with distinctive golden tips.
Once infused, Himalayan Gold produces a bright, beautifully balanced liquor. The flavour is light and refreshing, developing a gentle natural sweetness as you drink. There is enough body to give the cup presence, but very little of the heaviness or strong tannic character associated with more powerful black teas.
That makes this a particularly interesting tea for green tea drinkers looking to explore black tea. It retains the brightness, delicacy and clean finish you might appreciate in a fine green tea, while introducing the deeper, warmer character created through black tea production.
It is also a tea that deserves to be enjoyed without milk. Give the whole leaves plenty of room to open and the result is a beautifully composed cup that is delicate without lacking character.
