Grown at high elevations in the Kenyan mountains, the tea benefits from a combination of equatorial sunshine, plentiful rainfall and fertile soils. These conditions produce vigorous, characterful teas with a naturally strong flavour and excellent depth.
Once infused, Kenyan Gold produces a bold, full-bodied cup, with a rich flavour and smoothness that sets it apart from more everyday Kenyan teas. There is plenty of strength, but it is balanced and rounded rather than overpowering, making this a particularly satisfying tea to drink throughout the day.
Our tea is sourced through the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), which brings together tea grown by small-scale farmers across the country. These farms are generally found on the eastern side of the Great Rift Valley, close to the equator, where tea is grown at high elevations in rich, nutrient-filled soils.
The quality is also evident in the loose leaf itself. Carefully selected leaves, including fine golden tips, give the tea an attractive appearance and contribute to its depth of flavour – but it is the overall quality and character of the finished cup that makes this tea special.
For anyone familiar with the robust Kenyan teas often found at the heart of a good breakfast blend, Kenyan Gold offers the opportunity to experience Kenyan tea at a higher level. It retains that familiar strength and richness, while bringing greater smoothness, depth and refinement to the cup.
