Picked during the prized second flush, the leaf is dark and beautifully made, with golden tips running throughout. This late spring harvest is when Assam teas develop their characteristic depth, producing a cup with greater richness and a wonderfully rounded character.
Once infused, Dikom Estate 2nd Flush is full, smooth and unmistakably malty. There is plenty of body, but without the harshness that can come with more ordinary Assam teas. Instead, the strength is balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving the infusion a rich and satisfying finish.
The golden tips are one of the most striking features of the dry leaf. Formed from the youngest parts of the tea shoot, they sit amongst the darker leaves and are a hallmark of carefully produced second flush Assam.
Dikom Tea Estate lies in the Dibrugarh district of Upper Assam, within the great Brahmaputra River Valley. Here, the warm climate, abundant rainfall and fertile soils of the river plains create exceptional conditions for growing the indigenous Assam tea plant.
There is something wonderfully complete about this tea. It has the strength and depth you want from Assam, but also the smoothness and quality to be enjoyed without anything added. Brew it on its own to appreciate its rounded maltiness and natural sweetness, or add a splash of milk – there is more than enough body to carry it beautifully.
